Summer Stuff.

5/25/2016

Back from presenting at the NET Intersection symposium. Check out the Lightning Rod Special Instagram for some pics.

This weekend I go on retreat in Connecticut to start thinking about One Way Red, the Medium Theatre Company's Philadelphia Fringe Festival offering.

Once I'm back, I'll be gearing up for a dance performance with Group Motion. (NO)E(XIT)N-TRANCE: Inter-terrestrial Sightings is a new multi media dance theater work directed by Manfred Fischbeck and created in collaboration with Nick Jushchyshyn, Westphal's Program Director for Animation & Visual Effects at Drexel.

Other summer plans include teaching an experimental theater camp for 6-8th graders at The Philadelphia School, and training intensives with Lightning Rod Special in butoh, bouffon, and musical theater for a new project in the works.

Chicago Symposium

5/16/2016

I'm headed to Chicago on Thursday for the Network of Ensemble Theater's Intersection: Ensembles and Universities Symposium at Columbia College. I'll be teaching a workshop with Haverford College Professor John Muse.

Check out the description below:

Making is Thinking:
Lightning Rod Special & Haverford College
Presenters:
John Muse, Visiting Assistant Professor, Haverford College
Mason Rosenthal, Co-Director, Lightning Rod Special

Bring your familiar research methodologies and render them strange through performance. Like adding salty to the sweet, or looking sideways at the sun, we will take an oblique approach and make new discoveries. This thinking on (and with) your feet workshop will include exercises, discussion, and creation.

In fall 2015, Philadelphia-based devised theatre company Lightning Rod Special served as guest artists for Haverford College course “The Rhetoric of Argument” with Professor John Muse. In spring 2016, LRS worked with Haverford students in two courses: “Experimental Media - Theory, History, Practice” (Professor John Muse); and “Performance, Literature and the Archive” (Professor Jaclyn Pryor).
