Here are some words on the show from Vulture's Jackson McHenry.
I'll be in NYC next weekend to see the off-Broadway run of Lightning Rod Special's The Appointment. Looking forward to seeing how the piece has transformed post-Dobbs decision.
Here are some words on the show from Vulture's Jackson McHenry. One of my workshops for PROS: Performances to Reduce Online Scams made it to Virginia Tech's "Daily Doodle" by Steven White. Can you spot me?
The Appointment is checking in off-Broadway!
Beginning January 12, Lightning Rod Special presents our critically acclaimed musical satire about the absurdity and hypocrisy of the American abortion debate in New York City! Portion of proceeds will be donated to the National Network of Abortion Funds' Collective Power Fund. Tickets are available on our website. I've joined a team at Virginia Tech that is creating a "Performance to Reduce Online Scams" (PROS)! This semester, I'm leading a handful of devising workshops with students, faculty, staff, and community members in preparation for a performance in February that will tour local libraries and senior centers. You can learn more about the project (and the workshops) here.
We're off to a great start as part of the 2022 fall semester at Virginia Tech! I'm teaching three sections of Introduction to Acting and one of I-ACT (Introduction to Applied Collaborative Techniques), and very much enjoying my new students (all 80 of them!).
This semester I'll be moderating a post-performance Q+A at the Moss Arts Center with Acrobuffos, a circus and physical theatre company. They'll be presenting Air Play for one day only on Sunday, October 23rd at 2pm. More details available on the Moss' website. I'm also in conversations about a collaboration with professors in criminology and gerontology to create a touring performance about local seniors' experiences of online scams. Summer is wrapping up here in Austin, and soon I'll be headed back to teaching at Virginia Tech.
At the end of September however, I'll be in Philadelphia to see the premiere of Lightning Rod Special's SPEECH as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. I'm thinking I'll make it to opening and closing night. Hope to see you there! I've made How Do You Jew? available on YouTube. The series will also be featured as part of the upcoming TEATRON: Festival of Jewish Theatre, and I'm still hoping for a screening and Q+A in Chicago sometime in the fall.
The semester is wrapping here at Virginia Tech, and I'm getting ready to visit Philadelphia for the 10 year anniversary of Lightning Rod Special at our annual Big Bad Funtime Bash! The party is on (the very auspicious) FRIDAY the 13TH. Hope to see Philadelphia friends there!
A playful rehearsal today with Dr. Hannah Schwadron in preparation for our presentation on How Do You Jew? at The Conney Conference on Jewish Arts at the end of the month. Also some plans in the mix to screen HDYJ JCC Chicago as part of an event for 20 and 30 somethings in the city.
